so can i tell you all that i'm pondering the possibility of working for a gay rights organization, in terms of a career? the more i go on in life, it seems that i meander back to this issue all the time. i could be a speechwriter, press release(r)(?), something... go to grad school for law, be a civil rights attorney for HRC or something. i just feel, now more than ever, that i need to be involved in the gay rights movement. and sending a $25 check to HRC every year doesn't really cut it.
just a thought.
anyway, this weekend. friday i was up on campus with a whole rabble of people for a protest of the hate crime that took place last sunday. there weren't a lot of people there, but enough to have a good sense of visibility. i never feel very vociferous at protests. i think it's because i get pumped up for protests beforehand, and then remember that i think protests don't really accomplish much of anything while i'm there, and in that case, sort of quiet down.
after that i hung out with samara for awhile, then got my shit together and went to delores' house for a dinner party! gay dinner parties rock! i just found out that delores (this somewhat reserved 70-some year old lesbian i'm friends with) and another person started the Gay and Lesbian Studies branch of the MLA. She also has a prize named after her (in the MLA) for the best new gay & lesbian literature of the year. i think that's amazing. and she never talks about that, which i think she should!
anyway, saturday... what the hell did i do saturday? not a whole lot, ran around, did some shopping, bought (of course) clothes, a fabulous new coat, a tiny desk clock and other miscellaneous things. then i hung out with rizzo dave and josh. we tried to play Fluxx at a starbucks, but dave and josh refused to play by the rules and so teresa and i sat out... so then we left to go play DDR, and while playing a whole gaggle of small children enjoined and were thoroughly annoying, so we left and went to IHOP... while there, someone beat the record for most pancakes eaten; they ate 23 pancakes in one sitting. i can't even fathom that.
SUNDAY SUNDAY SUNDAY. i went out with monica for a bit. someone asked us if we were together at the grocery store and we both sort of glared awkwardly at the other and said, "yes and no." it was funny. then we drove out to lakewood because monica had some personal business to attend to... then we ended up at bob and lindsay's for the superbowl! fuck yeah! superbowl!! seahawks vs. steelers... best god damn game of football i've ever seen (i say that because it's the ONLY game of football i've ever really seen). i cheered for the seahawks because alison liked them and everyone else liked the steelers so i felt bad she was going to cheer alone. plus their outfits were a nicer color. steelers had on some garish white and canary jerseys, whereas the seahawks had (what?) dark teal(?). the commercials were funny too. i especially liked the bud light commercial with the hidden bottles of beer in the office and the office workers destroying the building for the beer (the woman with the uprooted plant in her hand, the man punching holes in the walls)... hysterical!
i'm going to miss class tomorrow if i don't go to sleep right now.
all my kent peeps need to look up my digits in they-alls phonebooks and bling-bling me. for real.
